Week 7: "Let sleeping dogs lie"

Everyone is preparing for Yukiko's birthday party as Sachiko worries whether her father will come or not. 

RECAP:  

Back at Massan and Ellie's house, Massan is building his brick oven with Sachiko. The neighbor ladies watch them in awe but, of course, Catherine immediately begins to pester him with her criticism. 

Ellie asks Sachiko to go with her to deliver the invitations they made to Yukiko. However, Sachiko is hesitant to go and asks if Ellie can go for her so Ellie heads off to deliver the invitations and Yukiko is happy to receive hers. Mr. Nonomura, however, won't be able to make it as he has an important engagement in Tokyo. This upsets Ellie and she asks him which is more important, work or family? Mr. Nonomura responds that he has already made his decision about Yukiko so there is no point in arguing and Ellie just tells him that they will be waiting for him at the party. 

Massan has made his first batch of bread and he tries it with Sachiko. They both agree that it has no flavor at all. Massan can't figure out where he went wrong and makes Sachiko laugh with his soot blackened face. Ellie returns home and tells Sachiko that Natsu and Yukiko will be coming to the party and when Sachiko asks about her father, Ellie tells her that he will come too. 

Ellie and Massan are talking about whether or not Mr. Nonomura will actually come to the party tomorrow as Sachiko goes outside in the back. Ellie notices that Sachiko is not there and goes to look for her outside. She finds Sachiko just as Sachiko throws a picture of her mother into the fire of the brick oven. Ellie immediately removes the picture before it burns too much and tells Sachiko that she doesn't need to forget about her mother. 

Massan then comes to ask them about having dinner. They go back inside the house and Sachiko helps Ellie make miso soup by cutting the green onions. Ellie tells Sachiko that her mother will not be angry with her if she calls Yukiko as her mother and that her mother will always be watching over her. Sachiko thinks about this and then laughs as Ellie burns her hand on the lid of the pot. 

The next day is Yukiko's birthday party. In preparation, Massan is explaining to everyone how to make bread.
