Week 7: "Let sleeping dogs lie"

Episode 40 (11/13/2014)
In today's episode we see what happened to make Sachiko come running to Ellie and Massan's home. Sachiko refuses to go home and continues to blame herself for the situation at hand. 

RECAP:  

Sachiko is crying in front of Massan and Ellie's home and everyone has gathered around her to see what is wrong. Yukiko and Natsu then show up to come pick her up and Ellie and Massan invite them inside to talk. Yukiko explains that last night Mr. Nonomura had said that he would like a divorce. Without knowing this, Natsu said that she wants to have a birthday party for Yukiko and Mr. Nonomura told her that Yukiko will no longer be her mother which upsets the girls. Yukiko cries as he blames herself for not being able to become a mother to them. 

Mr. Nonomura receives a phone call from work when Yukiko returns and tells him that Sachiko would not come back with her.

Sachiko is still crying as she explains that she feels like the divorce is her fault because she wouldn't call Yukiko as her mother and Massan even speaks up to comfort her by saying that it's not so easy to just let go of the mother who gave birth to her.  

Mr. Nonomura then shows up to bring Sachiko back home with him but Ellie meets him at the entrance to try and stop him from coming in. After some arguing he finally decides to listen to what Ellie has to say. She explains that neither Sachiko nor Yukiko dislike each other. Mr. Nonomura says that he understands that but says that it was too careless of him to marry Yukiko. 

Ellie asks that he give things a little more time. She believes that Sachiko will eventually be able to call Yukiko as her mother. Mr. Nonomura has already made up his mind though and tries to take Sachiko back home with him anyway. Sachiko fights back and hides beside Massan as she tells her father that she hates him and he finally gives up and leaves. 

That night, Sachiko is laying in bed with Ellie and Massan but is unable to sleep. She tells Ellie that she feels like a bad person and that it is probably better if she wasn't even alive. Both Ellie and Massan comfort her and tell her that that is not so and Ellie comes up with an idea. She suggests they have a birthday party for Yukiko at their house. 

The next day Ellie is telling her friends about her idea to have a birthday party and says that it will be a good chance for the family to reconcile. Everyone is skeptical about whether it will really work and Umeko asks what she will do about food. Ellie tells them with a grin on her face that Massan is making a bread oven in the back.
