Week 7: "Let sleeping dogs lie"

Episode 38 (11/11/2014)

Today Ellie tries to connect with Sachiko by sharing her own past when she lost her father. There seems to be progress as Sachiko opens up to Ellie but she has yet to open up to Yukiko.  

RECAP:  

Ellie is teaching Sachiko and Natsu English at her house and as she gets to the flashcard for "family," Sachiko tenses up. 

Massan returns from working at Kohinobori and Natsu greets him in English. He replies to both girls in English but Sachiko does not want to participate. Ellie then has Natsu to spend time with Massan while she spends some more time with Sachiko. She shows a picture of her family to Sachiko and Sachiko realizes that Ellie is also an older sister. Ellie tells her about her family when she was growing up and how her mother was always strict towards her which Sachiko can relate to. 

Sachiko tells Ellie that she sometimes doesn't like her father because he makes her call Yukiko as "Mother." She explains that she doesn't hate Yukiko and Ellie assures her that Yukiko likes Sachiko too. The little girl then explains that she doesn't want to call Yukiko "Mother" because she is afraid that her real mother might hear her. 

Ellie tells Sachiko about the time when she lost her father and since she was the older sister she was always told to keep herself together and stay strong for her younger sister. She tells Sachiko that it is okay though to show weakness from time to time and cry when she is sad or show anger when she is angry. She tells her they are friends so if she is ever sad, she can always come talk to her. 

Yukiko then comes to pick up the girls and Natsu is happy to run along with Yukiko but Sachiko still remains reserved but follows behind them. 

Once they leave, Massan asks Ellie if she misses her father and Ellie responds that as long as Massan is by her side, she is okay, flustering Massan as he runs inside the house. Ellie then takes a moment to think back about her father and how he told her that life should be an adventure. 

That night as she is laying in bed, she says goodnight to her father and tells him that she is having an adventure. 

Ellie goes back to the church for the music lessons and delighted to see that Sachiko is singing enthusiastically. Catherine doesn't understand how they seem to be getting along so well all the sudden and Ellie tells her that she has become friends with Sachiko. At that very moment, Mr. Kurosawa from Kamoi Shop comes into the church.
