Recap - Massan Week 6, Ep 36

Massan

Week 6: "He who gives to another bestows on himself"

Episode 36 (11/8/2014)
Ellie receives help from everyone who knows her as they come by bringing food and supplies. Massan realizes how well she is liked in their neighborhood and starts to realize some of his wrongdoings.

RECAP:
After seeing Ellie ill, the landlady, Yoshi, runs out without saying where she is going. Then Haru comes along with Aki bringing vegetables for Ellie. Umeko's husband even comes bringing meat for Ellie as well and with all these ingredients, everyone decides to make botan nabe for her.

As they are preparing, Yoshi finally returns with a big block of ice to help with Ellie's fever. Once everything is prepared, they give her some of the nabe. Massan even blows on it to cool it so Ellie doesn't burn her tongue.

Everyone leaves to let Ellie rest and Massan bows as he thanks everyone for all their help. He is at awe at how much Ellie has won the hearts of everyone in their neighborhood.

Catherine has stayed back and is talking with Ellie as she rests. She mentions how sweet Ellie is to Massan but Ellie admits that she sometimes isn't so sure that's the case. Sometimes she can't figure out why he gets so mad. Catherine assures her that she is fine. It is Mr. Whisky's (Massan) fault and you can see that she is thinking up some kind of idea.

Catherine then suddenly runs outside to get Massan and tells him that Ellie has stopped breathing. Massan dashes into the house to see her and begins to panic while Catherine begins to "sob" next to him. Massan starts telling Ellie all kinds of things like "I married you so that I could make you happy. I'll do anything for you!" Ellie then smiles and opens her eyes. Once Massan realizes that it was all an act he gets upset and Catherine tells Ellie to remember well what he just said to her.

A few days later, Ellie is getting better. Massan has made her breakfast. Ellie tells him that she was happy to hear what he said the other day. He complains about how they fooled him so it doesn't count. Ellie laughs and tells Massan that there was some good to becoming sick. She has come to like Japan even more now and points out how when one person is in trouble, everyone comes to their aid. Massan admits that he may have forgotten about that a bit.

Someone then comes knocking at their front door and they immediately think it is Yoshi but it turns out to be Yoshiko from Sumiyoshi. She has brought a letter from Massan's sister, Sumire. The letter turns out to be for Ellie and it is written in all English. Ellie is so happy to have received a letter and asks Massan if she can reply.

They are then suddenly interrupted by Yoshi who does indeed come to collect the rent and since they cannot pay, she tells them that she cannot wait any longer and tells them to pack their things and go speak with the actual landlord. Massan and Ellie are confused and ask where the landlord lives.

Next thing we know they have arrived at a very large home and are escorted to a room to wait for the landlord. He then comes in and introduces himself as Mr. Nonomura.
