RECAP:
Ellie makes a Scottish hot toddy using the marmalade they made and gives it to Umeko's son, Taro. Catherine, Momoko and Umeko leave Taro with Ellie and return to their homes.
Umeko comes to pick Taro up and they thank Ellie for her help. When she goes back into the house she asks Massan if he is not hungover from last night. He starts to complain about her having Taro stay the night just because of a fever. He also tells her that she doesn't need go looking for work anymore as well as doing any work from home. Ellie protests asking why it is so bad that she doing any work but Massan says that is just the way things are in Japan but immediately apologizes and tells Ellie that he just doesn't want her to overwork herself and get sick, which would be hard for him as well.
Catherine then comes in and tells him if he is so worried about Ellie's health, then why doesn't he go find a job to make their lives easier. She gives Ellie some eggs and continues to lecture Massan but he doesn't want to hear it and leaves the house.
Catherine stays to chat with Ellie and asks how she can put up with such a man. Ellie tells her that right now Massan is taking a break but he will make whisky someday. Catherine asks how she can be so confident and Ellie just responds with a smile, saying that it's a secret.
Ellie then goes to stand up but falls to the ground. Catherine rushes to her side to see if she is okay and finds that she has a very high fever. She rushes to Kohinobori to tell Massan and they both run back home. Umeko feels guilty thinking it is her fault and apologizes but Catherine says that this is all Massan's fault.
They then decide to make a hot toddy for Ellie but find that Massan has eaten all of the marmalade. Umeko goes to get the rest of her own marmalade while Catherine stays at the house, scolding Massan for not taking better care of Ellie.
They give Ellie the hot toddy but then the landlady of their house comes asking for the rent as it is already past the three extra days she gave them. Massan tries to explain that Ellie has fallen ill but she doesn't believe him until Catherine reaffirms her that it is true. The landlady comes into the house to check on Ellie and just as Massan is trying to ask for more time to pay the rent, she suddenly gets up to leave saying "This is no good!"
