Recap - Massan Week 6, Ep 33

Massan

Week 6: "He who gives to another bestows on himself"

Episode 33 (11/5/2014)
Ellie keeps searching for work but has no luck and Massan is still in the same rut but he eventually asks for work at the local restaurant where he can at least make a little income. I sure hope we can get out of this rut soon. It's becoming difficult to watch the same struggle for almost an entire week!

RECAP:
Ellie sees that Massan is writing something and asks him what it is. Massan responds that he is writing a novel so Ellie tries to read it but she cannot read Japanese so she just takes his word for it, much to his relief.

In Hiroshima at Massan's home, Sanae is looking at the old family photograph from when Massan was young and you can tell that she still really does care about Massan. Sumire then comes in and tells her mother that she would like to write a letter to Massan but of course Sanae says that is not necessary.

Back in Osaka, Ellie is telling Catherine about Massan's "novel" he is writing and Catherine is surprised by that. Catherine then asks Ellie to help her with her singing class at the church.

At the church, Ellie plays the organ and helps teach the children when she notices that one girl isn't singing. The girl's little sister explains to Ellie that it's because she is dreading her piano class right after this one.

Massan is still working on his "novel" but thoughts of Mr. Kamoi keep distracting him. He then thinks back to his days in Scotland and begins to wonder what he is doing.

After the singing class at the church, Catherine gives Ellie some money. It's not enough to pay the rent but it helps and Ellie asks her if there is any other work she can do.

Massan heads to Kohinobori but this time he asks Haru to let him work there. Haru asks him if he really wants to degrade himself to being a server but Massan says that he will teach him how to play shogi as well so Haru lets him work and he begins by peeling potatoes. Yoshiko and Ikeda from Sumiyoshi stop by and notice him working and ask him what he is doing working there.

Massan tries to ask them for money but they quickly refuse. They tell Massan about the situation at Sumiyoshi with the shareholders coming everyday to make cost reductions. Their pay has been reduced and it is even being rumored that people will be let go. The only company making money these days is Kamoi Shop and this gets Massan thinking again...

Catherine tries to help Ellie find somewhere to work but Ellie keeps running into problems including language barriers or not knowing how to use an abacus. It doesn't look like Ellie is going to be able to find any kind of job but Ellie picks herself back up and keeps looking as she sings to herself for encouragement. From inside a building, a mysterious man takes notice of her.
