Week 8: "Pie in the sky"

Massan and Ellie are still hard at work and while Toshio is still giving Massan the cold shoulder, Chikako appears to be warming up a little towards Ellie.

RECAP:
Massan and Toshio are still preparing things for the test brew of the sake. They are washing the rice when Massan asks why they are switching to a new rice after they had been using Bizen rice from Okuyama up until now. Toshio explains that they want to make the best sake using Hiroshima rice and Hiroshima water. Toshio then smells the rice and Massan asks him if he can tell good rice by its smell. Toshio replies that he believes in his sense of smell and Massan tells him that it is similar to a whisky blender and says that they should make whisky together. Toshio, however, has no interest at all in making whisky.
Massan returns to his room after a hard days work and Ellie is busy repairing all of the tabi socks. He begins to complain to Ellie about his interactions with Toshio and then notices the pile of tabi socks that she is working on. He tells her she doesn't need to do that kind of work but she tells him that it is nothing, she will continue to do her best at being a house maid.
Chikako then calls Massan to come talk with his mother. His mother asks him to explain to her why he quit Sumiyoshi Distillery and what he plans on doing from now. She blames Ellie for being the reason he left Sumiyoshi and even accuses her of bewitching Massan. Massan gets upset and leaves the room.
Massan's father, Masashi, is standing up stretching in his room and appears to be back to normal when Toshio comes asking for him outside his door. He quickly gets back in bed before letting Toshio come in and pretends that he is still in quite a lot of pain. He asks Toshio about Massan and tells him that he needs to make him work hard in order for him to notice.
Just as Masashi says, Toshio gets Massan to work harder at the brewery and Massan complains that he is not even one of the brewery workers. Toshio tells him to stop complaining and just work.
That night, Massan is fast asleep while Ellie is in the kitchen trying to figure out the Kameyama household flavor of miso soup. Chikako sneaks up behind her and asks her what she is doing and appears to be moved when Ellie explains.
The next morning, Ellie is wiping the floors and Sanae tells her to wipe harder. Chikako sees her and calls her into the kitchen. She shows Ellie the ingredients and tells her the recipe for the Kameyama household. They then hear the sound of the workers at the brewery and Ellie mentions that as they listen to the music, Chikako's baby is also listening from her womb. Sanae watches them from just outside the kitchen.
