Episode 23 (10/24/2014)

RECAP:
Ellie is anxiously waiting as Yuko meets with the Fujioka family and their son, her future husband.
At the Tanaka household, the meeting appears to be going well. The Fujioka family and their son, Jiro (actor: Ken Yamamura), seem nice but Jiro does have one question for Yuko: Why did she turn down the arranged marriage at first? This sends a wave of tension throughout the room but Yuko gathers her courage and gracefully answers that she had a dream to leave her house and work before getting married, but that it was just a dream. Jiro seems to look intrigued by her answer but that is all we see.
Ellie finally runs out of her house to see Yuko and when she gets there, Yuko’s mother excitedly informs her that the marriage has been decided. Ellie finds Yuko in the kitchen as she makes “sekihan” (A celebratory dish of rice that has been boiled with red beans, giving it a reddish color). Ellie sees the pot of rice and tries to open the lid but Yuko stops her and tells her that she is always trying to take the lid off (figuratively). Even as Yuko tries to live while keeping the lid closed on her inner emotions, Ellie is always trying to remove that lid. She is not angry but gives her a resigned look and says that her family’s company is most important and she must do her part to keep it going. The rice is finished and Ellie looks at her with tears in her eyes as she tastes the rice.
Meanwhile, Massan rushes over to a restaurant where a photo shoot for the new Taiyo Wine advertisement is taking place. As he takes a look, he is surprised to see a young woman sitting in a chair lowering her kimono off of her shoulders. Mr. Kamoi, however, looks at it with approval. This was only the camera test shooting and afterwards, Mr. Kamoi explains that showing the beautiful skin of a young woman will give the wine an impression of being safe as well as good for beauty and health.
The real photo shoot then begins and as the model lowers her kimono off of her shoulders, Mr. Kamoi is not quite satisfied and the young woman offers to lower her kimono all the way down, exposing her chest.
After the photo shoot, Massan apologizes for misunderstanding Mr. Kamoi. At first he thought that Mr. Kamoi was just dictating everyone and using them like puppets but now realizes that he holds a lot of respect for his employees and their ideas. Mr. Kamoi says that the most important aspect of a company is it’s people. As they advance, the company advances with them. Massan tells Mr. Kamoi that he has learned a lot from him and is about to return to Sumiyoshi when Mr. Kamoi suddenly offers him to work at Kamoi shop to make whisky with him. He offers three times the amount of pay and allows Massan some time to think about it.
Massan returns home and Ellie immediately starts talking about Yuko but Massan is so caught up in Mr. Kamoi’s offer that he doesn’t have the energy to listen about Yuko.
When Mr. Tanaka sees Massan at work the next day, he begins to notice something bothering him.
