Recap - Massan Week 4, Ep 22

Massan

Week 4: "Every Jack has his Jill"

Episode 22 (10/23/2014)
Although he is unable to admit it, Massan is having a great time working with Mr. Kamoi on how to save the image of Taiyo Wine. Ellie is delighted to officially be friends with Yuko but the minute she thinks she has saved Yuko from an unwanted marriage arrangement, things become more complicated.

RECAP:
Mr. Kamoi is holding a meeting with his staff and Massan. The future of Kamoi Shop is at risk and so he asks everyone for their opinion on whether they should continue to sell Taiyo Wine or not.

Mr. Shirai, who's in charge of development, mentions that it is their top-selling product so they must continue selling it. Without it would be like a tiger without fangs. The college student, Aoyama, then asks to speak and suggests that they discontinue Taiyo Wine for but comes across the issue of whether or not people will be willing to buy it again later. Mr. Kamoi then asks Massan for his opinion and Massan suggests that they change the contents of Taiyo Wine and start making real wine but in order to do that, they would need Sumiyoshi Distillery to make it. They then come up with the idea to change the ingredients to natural ingredients to make it a healthy product which would appeal to many health conscious people. Aoyama adds that if you add that it is good for beauty as well, then even women will become interested in it.

However, Mr. Kamoi says that he doesn't want to change the contents of the wine. Massan responds that you must change the way that people look at the world by 180 degrees (rough translation of「世間の見る目を180度変えないとダメだ」). Mr. Kamoi pounces on that idea and says that instead of changing the contents of Taiyo Wine, they must change people's impression of the wine. This gets everyone excited and motivates them to create a new image for the wine by creating new advertisements.

After everyone leaves, Massan asks Mr. Kamoi why he invited him to this meeting since he is not actually a part of the company. He responds that he wanted to hear his opinions as a creator.

Once Massan returns home, he finds Ellie sitting outside waiting for him because she has something to tell him. She has officially become friends with Yuko. At dinner she tries to tell Massan about how Yuko's arranged marriage has been stopped but Massan is too distracted and keeps bringing up Mr. Kamoi. Ellie gets upset and leaves the room.

A few days later, the new advertisements for Taiyo Wine are complete and everyone, including Massan, thinks the advertisements are good but Mr. Kamoi is still not quite happy with them. Ellie then shows up, much to Massan's surprise, and it turns out that Mr. Kamoi invited her to hear her opinion since she has such a good eye for good ideas. Everyone greets her and Aoyama even greets her in English. Mr. Kamoi tells Ellie that Massan's ideas are too serious and that he should lighten up and have more fun.

That night, Massan and Ellie are talking over dinner and Massan cannot stop talking about Mr. Kamoi. Ellie laughs and mentions that it sure sounds like he is having a lot of fun working with Mr. Kamoi but Massan denies it and tells her that he just wants to return to Sumiyoshi. Ellie knows that is not entirely true, however.

Back at Sumiyoshi, Mr. Sasazuka from Namihana Bank has come with bad news. They are unable to provide the financing they need due to the exploding wine issue, putting the fate of Sumiyoshi Distillery in danger. Even the workers have caught on and are talking about looking for new work elsewhere.

Later, Yuko's grandfather pays another visit to the Tanaka household and urges them to rethink the arranged marriage. He warns that by not marrying, Sumiyoshi is at risk of going bankrupt. Now under great pressure, Yuko decides to go through with the marriage as Ellie looks on from the other room, stricken with worry.
