Recap - Massan Week 5, Ep 25

Massan

Week 5: "Behind every successful man there is a wise woman"

Episode 25 (10/27/2014)
Ellie is still angry at Massan for not talking to her about Mr. Kamoi's offer to come work with him and consults with several of her friends for advice. Sumiyoshi Distillery faces more obstacles that get in the way of making whisky as well as jeopardize the future of the company.

RECAP:
Massan wakes up after spending the night sleeping on the floor by the dinner table. He and Ellie had a fight last night and Ellie is still upset. He tries to wake Ellie up to get her to make breakfast but she refuses, throwing Massan's words from last night back at him by saying that as a foreigner she doesn't know anything, therefore she doesn't know how to cook breakfast. Massan gives up and leaves for work.

After Massan leaves, Ellie gets up and goes to visit Mr. Kamoi. She asks Mr. Kamoi to give Massan another chance to work at his shop. He tells her that there is nothing he can do. Massan has already made his decision to work at Sumiyoshi. He explains the saying, "naijo no kou" (English: behind every successful man there is a wise woman), and tells her that it is something that only she can do to support Massan.

Back at Sumiyoshi, everyone is told to take leave since the production of wine has been stopped. Massan finds Mr. Tanaka and tells him that he is not going to work for Kamoi Shop and Mr. Tanaka calls him an idiot but then shows that he is grateful that he chose to stay. With a look of determination, he tells Massan that they will make whisky together.

Ellie arrives late to the Tanaka household to help out for the day and finds Yuko in the kitchen. Yuko tells her that she met with Jiro, her future husband, and was able to talk privately with him for the first time. Jiro told her that from now on he will help carry half of the burden she carries in terms of the household as well as her family's company. His kindness makes Yuko feel much more at ease and she begins to change her feelings toward the arranged marriage.

Later, Yuko's grandfather, Chogoro, visits Sumiyoshi again and tells everyone that he cancelled the shareholders meeting as they are too busy handling the trouble caused by the exploding wine bottles. No one will support them with that kind of situation and they cannot take that kind of gamble while the production of wine has been halted. Mr. Tanaka tries to tell him that they are currently making a new advertisement poster for Taiyo Wine but Chogoro surprises everyone by saying that Kamoi Shop is currently building their own factory at the harbor. Once they complete their own factory, they won't need to order from Sumiyoshi any more.

It's lunch time and Yoshiko is talking with the others about the Taiyo Wine situation and points out that Massan and Ellie are not on good terms.

Later, Ellie is chatting with her neighborhood friends and Ellie asks them what they think she should do if her husband hides something from her and Catherine convinces her to pretend she doesn't know and just continue supporting him.

Massan is currently rushing to Sado Factory because they returned his drawings for the pot stills. He asks the master why he returned them and he tells Massan that Mr. Yaguchi informed him that the plans to make whisky have been stopped.

Back at home, Ellie is trying to think of what she can do to help Massan.
