Recap - Massan Week 18, Ep 107

Massan

Week 18: "Distant yet so close is the relationship between man and woman"

Episode 107 (2/6/2015)

RECAP:
After hearing of Eichiro's death, Ellie and Massan rush to Osaka. They show up and find Mr. Kamoi standing alone in the storehouse. He thanks them for coming from such a long distance, and Ellie just goes up to him with tears in her eyes and hugs him. Massan tries to express his condolences but Mr. Kamoi asks him to skip the formalities. He then pours them each a glass of the whisky that Eichiro was working on before he died and they both take a sip. Mr. Kamoi asks them how it tastes and they both say that it is good, but Mr. Kamoi contradicts them by saying that it's not good. He says it is still young (as was his son), too young.

Mr. Kamoi tells them that he died of a heart attack, that he was found collapsed in this storehouse. He says that seeing your child pass away before your own death is the biggest failure as a parent. Massan and Ellie took care of him when he was in his worst and after they left for Hokkaido, he never stopped thinking about them. He wanted to make whisky that would rival even Massan's own whisky. Mr. Kamoi thanks Massan for giving Eichiro the will to make whisky at Kamoi Shop. He continues by telling them that both he and Eichiro had been looking forward to the day that Massan makes whisky in Hokkaido and this causes Massan to break down in tears. He asks that Massan make his whisky for Eichiro's sake as well and thanks them greatly with a very low bow.

Later, Ellie and Massan head to Kohinobori and are greeted cheerfully by Catherine and Haru. They all sing together to try to life the spirits of Massan and Ellie.

Massan thinks back to Eichiro following in his footsteps as he studied how to make whisky and later succeeding in making it. He thinks about this and gains new determination as they return to Hokkaido.
