Massan
Week 14: "There is kindness to be found everywhere"
Episode 83 (1/9/2015)
RECAP:
Massan is on a train heading for Hiroshima but the train is temporarily stopped. He complains to one of the train conductors and nearly gets in a fight with another passenger as he complains about the wait.
In Hiroshima, Sanae is not doing well. Everyone surrounds her as they wait for Massan to return. Chikako suggests that once Massan returns, they should have the wedding ceremony but Sanae still says she doesn't approve. Chikako, however, has brought a kimono already for Ellie to wear.
They go into another room to try it on but suddenly Mr. Shimaji (the head clerk) calls them back as Sanae has suddenly become worse, coughing up blood. The doctor comes and tells Masashi to prepare for the worst as she may not make it another day.
All they can do is wait while they try to keep Sanae comfortable. They try to get her to take her medicine but at this point Sanae has accepted her fate and refuses to take any more medicine. However, she asks for some of Ellie's hot toddy so Ellie goes to make her some.
Sanae's cough starts to calm a little and she asks if Massan has made it home yet. He hasn't so she then turns to her husband and says that once he arrives they are to have the wedding ceremony for Massan and Ellie.
Ellie and Chikako go back to the other room to prepare.
Meanwhile, Massan is reminiscing about his past with his mother as he return home on the train. He thinks back to all the times that she gave him strength, like when he came home as a child after getting in a fight. He realizes that everything that he has in his life is thanks to his mother.
