Massan
Week 14: "There is kindness to be found everywhere"
Episode 82 (1/8/2015)
RECAP:
The party is continuing at Kumatora's home. Massan falls asleep but wakes when Kumatora's daughter, Hana, comes to give him a blanket. Massan asks Hana how long this party will go on and she responds saying that with so many people returning from being away from home, it will be pretty late. Hana tells her father that Massan has awoken and Kumatora formally introduces Massan to everyone.
Massan shares some whisky with everyone and when they go to try it, no one can stand the taste, some even spitting it out. Once Massan and Kumatora are alone, Kumatora tells Massan that he will buy all of his whisky.
Later, Kumatora tells Massan about his father and his own life story while the other guests say that they have heard this story many times before but Kumatora continues anyway. He explains that he was able to find his dream in this place. A man who has lost everything can rediscover his dream in this place. He continues to tell Massan to quit his whisky making and come here to become a fisherman.
Meanwhile, in Hiroshima, Ellie is busy nursing Sanae back to health.
The next day, Massan wakes up and goes outside to the toilet. From the toilet window he can see thick fog, causing him to quickly dash out toward it. He finally reaches a river with delicious clear water. He rushes back to the house to ask Hana to take him up a hill. When they get to the top, they can see the river and all the beautiful nature around it. He is determined to find peat near the river and sets off to look for it with Hana tagging along behind him probably thinking he must be crazy or something. He digs around looking for peat while getting himself all muddy and finally finds some.
Once he returns to Kumatora's home, he thanks them for their hospitality and especially for buying his whole crate of whisky and heads back to Otaru.
Once he gets back to Otaru, he calls Mr. Kamoi but is shocked when he hears the news about his mother. He immediately calls his home and Sumire is surprised to finally hear from him. She gives the phone over to Ellie who yells at Massan for causing her so much worry.
