RECAP:
It's the morning after Massan accepted Mr. Kamoi's job offer and Massan and Ellie are in a hurry to leave the house. They are heading to his home in Hiroshima to give his family the good news.
Once they arrive, everyone is excited to see them as they say that they have come bearing good news. His mother is extremely happy to hear this and welcomes them both inside. His sister, Sumire, asks what the big news is and Sanae says they don't need to say, she already knows. They are both surprised and confused by this and realize the misunderstanding when Sanae tells Ellie that she has made a good choice and that her mother will be so happy to have her return to her home country. She had assumed that they came back to tell the family that they were splitting up and that Ellie was going to return to Scotland. Massan explains to her that that is not the case. He actually has been recruited by a company to make whisky.
Sumire is very happy for them but Sanae is not thrilled at all. She has never heard of Kamoi Shop in Hiroshima. Just then, they receive a delivery from Osaka. It's a box of Kyushu mikan oranges which are quite famous. It turns out they are from Mr. Kamoi and he sent a letter to inform the family of his decision to hire Massan. At first they thought it was one box of mikan oranges but it turns out that Mr. Kamoi sent 10 boxes of the oranges which even surprises Sanae.
Massan tells them that he couldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for Ellie. Sanae is not happy to hear this and Massan tries to ask her why. Sanae tells him that Japanese people will not drink whisky and goes to leave the room.
Ellie follows her into the other room and sits next to her. She tells Sanae that she used the money she gave her for doing housemaid work and used it for Massan and thanks her sincerely. Sanae, however still will not accept her as Massan's wife. Ellie says that she may not be able to become Japanese but she will continue to support Massan and live by his side. Sanae goes to leave in tears and tells Ellie again that she will never be Ellie's mother.
Massan heard the conversation and tells his mother that Ellie is the best wife in the world. Massan hits him on the head and tells him to return to Osaka and Ellie is moved by his words.
Massan and Ellie then turn to go again and Ellie tells Massan that she may not ever become Japanese but she will be a Scottish woman with a Japanese heart. Massan asks her to always remain as his wife and Ellie jokingly says "Hmm....I don't know...."
