RECAP:
May 1921. Massan and Ellie are walking through a mountain forest when they find a beautiful waterfall.
Rewind to one month earlier:
Ellie is at home singing as she prepares dinner. Massan returns with a pile of reading material. He declares that he has finally found it! When Ellie asks what he has found, he says "Hokkaido!" Ellie asks what he means and he explains that it has similar conditions to Scotland so it would be perfect for making whisky. Ellie says that she would like to go see it and Massan tells her that he is going to tell Mr. Kamoi as soon as possible.
Ellie tries to talk to Catherine and friends about the situation and and they end up recommending that she get her house renovated to be more Western style. Ellie gives it some thought and decides to talk to Massan about it.
Mr. Kamoi introduces Massan to the company and tells him that for now he will be head of the whisky department and once they complete the distillery for whisky he will become head of the distillery.
Ellie comes back to the house with her friends and talk about the renovation plans and Umeko suggests that she has her husband, Shinchan, do the work as he is good at doing Western style construction.
Massan is alone with Mr. Kamoi and he asks him how he felt about the business plan he gave him. Mr. Kamoi asks him what he plans to do about the distillery location and workers and Massan tells him that he was thinking to go with Hokkaido since the conditions are good there and as for the workers, he wants to recruit people from Hiroshima with good experience in making alcohol.
Mr. Kamoi tells him to do whatever he sees fit and Massan tells him that the will have to go to Hokkaido as soon as possible to see what it is like. However, Mr. Kamoi tells him that he needn't go to Hokkaido. He says that transportation is too expensive and it takes too much time to get there so he asks Massan to find somewhere closer. He assures him that if it's Massan, he can make whisky anywhere.
Meanwhile, Ellie is eagerly waiting for Massan to return home so she can talk to him about her renovation plans.
