Recap - Massan Week 9, Ep 49

Massan

Week 9: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"

Episode 49 (11/24/2014)
Massan and Ellie head back to Osaka and Massan is prepared to go to Mr. Kamoi to ask to work for him but it's not as easy as he had hoped. Since being gone, Mr. Kamoi has made a lot of changes and developments in the company.

RECAP:
Massan and Ellie are singing as they head towards Osaka when Ellie mentions to Massan that the only way he can make whisky is by working with Mr. Kamoi. Massan agrees and once they arrive in Osaka, he goes straight to Mr. Kamoi to talk to him.

As he approaches Kamoi Shop, Mr. Kamoi goes by in the side care of a motor bike. They are celebrating the success of their Taiyo Wine and its poster.

Mr. Kamoi notices Massan and asks him why he is there. Massan tries to tell him that he has to talk to him about something but Mr. Kamoi gets pulled away to give a speech at his "mochi-maki" celebration (a celebration where small mochi cakes are thrown at the crowd of visitors). After he finishes, he invites Massan inside his office. Mr. Kamoi is excited to see him but Massan is super nervous as he tries to get up the nerve to talk to Mr. Kamoi. Mr. Kamoi then tells him that he has something he wants to show Massan. He pours him a glass of a fizzy amber colored drink called "Whikky" and has him try it. Massan tries a sip and is shocked at the flavor and asks what it is. Mr. Kamoi says that it is carbonated water mixed with whisky, making it easier for Japanese people to drink.

Massan cannot believe he would make such a drink and asks him about the real whisky used for the drink but Mr. Kamoi says that it is a secret. Mr. Kurosawa then comes in with Mr. Kamoi's English conversation teacher. He is studying English since his company is beginning to go global. Massan loses his nerve and gets up to leave as Mr. Kamoi asks him what he wanted to talk about. Massan leaves without saying anything.

Once Massan returns home, Ellie asks him how things went and Massan just tells her that even if he works for that company, he won't be able to make whisky. Ellie asks him if something happened. Massan tells her about "Whikky" and says that Mr. Kamoi doesn't have any interest in making real whisky. He also tells her that Mr. Kamoi is also already looking for another specialist.

Ellie says that if Mr. Kamoi hasn't found a specialist yet then Massan still has a chance but Massan doesn't want to go back. Ellie asks him what he plans to do then but Massan doesn't have an answer for her and just asks her not to talk anymore about Mr. Kamoi.

Later, Ellie is chatting with her neighbor friends about Massan's situation while Massan listens from the other room. He storms off to go to Kohinobori.

Once he gets to Kohinobori. Aki is trying to convince Haru to sell Taiyo Wine at their restaurant and put up the posters too. She says that customers are asking more and more about wine. Haru believes, however, that Japanese people are better off just drinking Japanese liquor.

Massan joins in the conversation and tells Haru that he doesn't get it, soon western food, drinks, and even culture will be coming into Japan one after another. However, Taiyo Wine is not a good idea. He says that that company doesn't know anything.

Back at Kamoi Shop, Mr. Kamoi is awaiting the arrival of a certain special guest.
