Recap - Massan Week 2, Ep 12

Massan

Week 2: "Bad luck often brings good luck"

Episode 12 (10/11/2014)
We saw more of Yuko's ugly side today as she continues to give Ellie a hard time. Massan tells Ellie that she has put up with enough at this point and suggests that they move back to Scotland. That is not an option for Ellie though.

RECAP:
Yuko allows Ellie to prepare dinner tonight and so Ellie prepares a traditional Scottish dish for everyone. However, once Yuko returns home, she pours a whole bowl of salt into the pot without Ellie knowing.

That night, everyone tries Ellie's dish and finds that it is way too salty. Ellie immediately knows exactly what has happened and stares directly at Yuko who avoids her eye contact. After the meal, Ellie is quietly crying as she cleans up, when Massan comes into the kitchen. She tells him that, as she suspected, Yuko really likes Massan and that is why she is being so mean to her but she will let Yuko get the best of her.

They then hear Mr. Tanaka yelling in another room. He knows what Yuko did to Ellie's dish and he is not happy about it. Massan and Ellie go to see what the yelling is about as Yuko says that Ellie has wronged her own family by leaving her country and family behind. Hurt by her words, Ellie tries again to apologize to Yuko but Yuko snaps back that no matter how many times she apologizes, it all sounds like lies to her and accuses her of abandoning her family to come to Japan.

Ellie cannot take anymore of this and storms out of the house in tears. Massan follows close behind her and once he is able to catch up he tells her that she has really done her best and she has gone through enough. He offers to return with her back to Scotland. They can make whisky there instead.

However, this upsets Ellie as she yells "Aho!" ("idiot!" in Osaka dialect) and shoves him away from her. Angrily she asks him why she came back to Japan with him. She really just wants to see her mother right now but she left everything behind so that she could come to Japan with Massan and help him obtain his dream.

Now that he has been reminded of the sacrifices she had to make to come here with him, Massan hugs her and sincerely thanks her.
