Recap - Massan Week 2, Ep 9

Massan

Week 2: "Bad luck often brings good luck"

Episode 9 (10/8/2014)

Now that Massan realizes that he misunderstood Mr. Tanaka's words before he left for Scotland, he tries to apologize and make amends with Yuko and the family. I can't help but feel sorry for Yuko though. She waited two years for him to return, with the anticipation that he would marry her.

RECAP:
Massan and Ellie visit Yuko's room to apologize for the misunderstanding only to find that Mr. Tanaka did not explain the situation to Yuko as he had promised. Massan continues to try to apologize to her but she will hear none of it. She brings up the time that they went on a "date" before he left for Scotland and she had asked him how many children he would like after he marries. He did not realize that she had asked that question under the assumption that they were to get married when he returned from Scotland.

Later, Massan heads to work to begin his research to make whisky while some of the distillery's workers come in to see what he is up to. He begins to try to explain the process of whisky making when Mr. Kamoi shows up and says that it sure looks like a lot of work. Massan continues to explain that in order to import and assemble the machinery to produce the whisky, it will take about 5 to 6 years, much to everyone's surprise.

Mr. Kamoi actually came to share some French wine he obtained with Mr. Tanaka. Sales of Taiyo wine are doing great but he is thinking to expand upon that. Since Mr. Tanaka is out at the time, Mr. Kamoi asks Massan to taste it. He has him taste the pure French wine along with another mixed version of the wine. Massan asks Mr. Kamoi why he is making the mixed version of the wine and not the "real" thing? Mr. Kamoi answers, "What is the real thing? If it is made in Japan and brings happiness to the Japanese people, isn't it the real thing in Japan?" Massan could not argue with that.

Later, we see that Yuko is in her room thinking back to the time she spent with Massan before he left for Scotland. You can tell that she is very disappointed as she was likely really looking forward to getting married once he returned.

At that same time, Ellie is studying Japanese and worries about Yuko and her feelings.
