Recap - Massan Week 3, Ep 16

Massan

Week 3: "Home is where you make it"

Episode 16 (10/16/2014)
Today Ellie is so excited to have finally made delicious rice for Massan but is disappointed when he doesn't come home until late, and when he does come home, he is in no condition to eat any food. Poor Ellie. :(

RECAP:
After learning from Yuko how to cook rice, Ellie immediately tries to make it at home. Following exactly what Yuko taught her, she is thrilled to see that she has made her first pot of perfect looking rice.

Massan, on the other hand, has turned in his written plan for making whisky to Mr. Tanaka and Mr. Yaguchi. Mr. Yaguchi expresses his concern that making whisky will cost too much and take too much time. He asks Massan to figure out a way to reduce the costs and return a revised plan to him within two days.

We briefly change scenes to see Yuko as she is thinking back out on the garden porch of their home.

That evening, Ellie is preparing dinner when Catherine shows up to give her some bread. Just behind her the two neighbors we saw in yesterday's episode show up and Catherine introduces them to Ellie properly. Ellie then offers to have them try some of the rice she just successfully made and all three of them say it is delicious.

Later that night, we see that Massan is still at work trying to figure out how to reduce the costs for his whisky plan. One of the workers at the company, Yoshiko, comes in to see how he is doing and expresses her concern that Ellie is probably at home waiting for him. He assures her that Ellie understands. As she is about to leave, Mr. Tanaka comes rushing in and frantically asks Massan for his help.

They run to a nearby restaurant/tea house where Mr. Tanaka introduces Massan to the general manager of the Namihana Bank that handles their company's finances, Mr. Sasazuka. Massan begins to explain the process of making whisky to the general manager and has to be stopped by Mr. Tanaka as he starts talking a mile a minute without end. Mr. Sasazuka then pressures Massan to have a drink to which he begrudgingly downs an entire bottle. This then leads to Massan singing upside down with Mr. Tanaka holding his legs. Of course, at that very moment, Mr. Kamoi comes in to see Massan in his strange position and teases him for leaving Ellie alone at home while he is entertained by (or rather, entertaining) other women. Massan swears that Ellie is the only one for him and loses his balance. He comes tumbling down with Mr. Tanaka, knocking over the folding screen behind them. Mr. Kamoi laughs as he leaves the room.

At home, Ellie has fallen asleep at the kitchen table waiting for Massan when she is suddenly awoken by a sound outside. She goes outside to see if it was Massan and finds him passed out drunk outside the house.
