Recap - Massan Week 3, Ep 15

Massan

Week 3: "Home is where you make it"

Episode 15 (10/15/2014)
We had a pretty positive episode today as we began with another welcomed visitor at the house. As Massan is making progress with his whisky making, Ellie is also finally making progress in learning how to cook rice and there might even be a long-awaited friendship in the making.

RECAP:
Three days have passed and its morning as Ellie is attempting to cook rice again when someone starts banging on the front door. She immediately equips herself with a frying pan in hand and wakes Massan only to find that it is Mr. Kamoi at the door. As he walks into the house he gives Ellie a hug and Massan is ever so quick to separate them. (I love his little jealousy fits!)

He is there to give a special housewarming gift, a tiger statue. He takes it upon himself to find a location for it and ends up clearing a nearby corner stand for it. He has also brought a gift just for Ellie. He hands her two bottles of imported perfumes and asks her which one she likes. She likes them both, so Mr. Kamoi ends up giving both of them to her.

After he leaves, Ellie remembers that she was cooking rice and finds that it is burnt yet again. She later sees Massan off as he leaves for work, hugging him in front of some neighbors and once he has left, she tries to ask the neighbors to show her how to cook rice but they all scurry off saying that they cannot speak English. She then visits Yuko one more time to beg her to teach her how to cook rice and she finally gives in.

At the same time, Massan is still working on his distilling experimentation and it appears to be moving along well as he is finally able to make whisky in its pure form. Everyone, especially Mr. Tanaka, is getting very excited about this.

Meanwhile, back at Mr. Tanaka's house, as they are making rice, Ellie and Yuko are having their first heart to heart talk as they talk about how Ellie feels about Japan and being Massan's wife here, to which Ellie responds that as long as Massan is with her, she is okay. Yuko adds that to be a good wife in Japan means to be able to handle the basics around the house.

Soone after their conversation, Ellie is eager to open the lid to the rice but Yuko tells her she has to wait a little longer. Once it is ready and Ellie can remove the lid, they find a perfectly cooked pot of rice, causing Ellie to yell out in joy, "Dekita! Dekita!" (We did it! We did it!).
