Massan

Week 19: "It's all over"

Episode 110 (2/10/2015)

RECAP:
The mysterious customer who asked for a taste of Massan’s whisky is invited to Massan’s house. He is a writer by the name of Uesugi Ryunosuke. He tries Massan’s whisky and says that it is delicious, pointing out that the smoky flavor is just right, reminding him of Highland Celt whisky. Both are excited and pleased to hear that the other knows of Highland Celt whisky.

Massan asks Uesugi if he has come to Hokkaido for work and Uesugi replies that he is here to see Massan. He has been a fan of Massan since he was working at Kamoi Shop. Ellie brings in some food and later Emma joins in as they have a lively conversation. Emma asks Uesugi if he thinks that Massan’s whisky will sell and Uesugi tells her that he doesn’t know for sure but and more different kinds of whisky with different flavors will come out and broaden the market.

Night comes and Uesugi tells Massan not to give up on his whisky before he returns.

Massan tells Emma that he truly appreciates what she did for him as he has regained his confidence again.

A few days later, there is an article in the newspaper about Massan’s whisky, written by Uesugi, which praised the whisky’s flavor and provided to be an excellent form of advertisement for Massan.

However, Massan realizes that he now needs to tell Nonomura and Watari about his whisky making, which he as been keeping a secret up until now. Nonomura and Watari end up coming to Hokkaido to see Massan to check on things at the distillery and as they sit in Massan’s living room, he presents them with a bottle of his whisky. He confesses to making whisky without their permission causing them to get upset as expected. They realize now that the distilling equipment he asked them to purchase 6 years ago was meant for whisky all along. Ellie joins Massan as they apologize while bowing as low as possible. Massan then tells them that he would like to stop making apple products so he can focus everything on the whisky. He gives them each a glass of his whisky and asks that they try it.
