Week 1: "Even the hardest of hearts can be moved to tears"

Episode 6 (10/4/2014)

Ellie begins to lose her courage due to the some discouraging words from Massan's mother. How can she win when she is up against the love of a mother for her son?

RECAP:

After listening to Massan's mother plead with her to return to Scotland and telling her that no matter what she does, she will never become Japanese, Ellie finally breaks down and decides that she must return to her home country. Shortly after, Massan returns to the house after talking with his father and can't find Ellie. He asks everyone around the house if they have seen her and no one seems to know where she is. He then finds his mother who tells him that it is time for him to get over Ellie. She will find him a new bride who is much more suitable for him and their house. He then realizes what has happened and dashes out of the house in search of Ellie.

Once he finds Ellie, she tells him that she is returning to Scotland. She threw everything away to come to Japan with him but she only has one regret, that she wasn't able to make amends with her mother. She tells Massan that his mother loves him very very much and that he should take care of his mother. As long as she is here in Japan, he won't be able to have a good relationship with his mother. Massan tells Ellie to stop trying to be Japanese and to remain as herself. He loves her for who she is. 

We then flashback to when Ellie goes to Massan just before he leaves for Japan and tells him to take her with him. Back in the present, he takes Ellie's hand and tells her, just as he did in the flashback in Scotland from previous episodes, to never let go of his hand. She remembers this and they hug.
